This is a quick post with more ideas for your Santa shopping. Who likes lists? I make a list of everyone I have to buy for, then I usually loose it trying to hide it from the kids. The list has 3 columns: name, if I bought it and what it is. Here's the real issue, my memory. If you have a memory like I do it's important for me to keep track of what I bought AND where I hid it- but I don't. There is nothing more frustrating than Christmas Eve rummaging through the house because I can't find a gift to wrap. My husband just rolls his eyes at me and I do my best to convince him I have it all under control. I clearly don't. Maybe I need a 4th column on the list, hiding spot?
Christmas break for us is about family time. As the kids get older they are busier but our traditions and time spent together are non-negotiable. It starts with the Macy's Day Parade on Thanksgiving Day. We have an egg casserole breakfast with cinnamon rolls. I have yet to find a recipe I love. I am my own worst critic. Every year it's a new attempt, so please share if you have a recipe you love.
Hubby puts the tree up a few days before turkey day and we spend the day decorating it. Well "we" is a loose term. I have been collecting ornaments for each kiddo since they were born. I thought it would be fun for them to each put up their own. Well it's as if I'm asking for kidney donation. How can hanging ornaments not be a good time?
But as promised, here are some more ideas for your own list.
We always play games over the holidays and no one ever whines about it- (insert sarcasm here). We love Uno, Jenga, Dominoes, and the latest hot game on the market. This one seems to be one I may benefit from. You have a series of numbers to memorize & then get a distraction card that asks a question. The catch is after you answer the question you have to recite your series of numbers. On second thought, maybe it's not a great option for me. It makes me sweat just thinking about it.
This may not be the most exciting gift but I am sure you can think of someone that will think this is super genius. I don't wear readers but you'll never believe this- I found some that don't have a prescription! They are cute tortoise shell frames and I am going to look so distinguished when I wear them, I just know it! I hear from friends all the time about losing their readers. Readers here & readers there and still none to use when you need them. Well here you have it, choose your strength & you have a phone AND reader case in one... 100% genius!
This is another one that's maybe not the "jump up & down and hug your parents" kind of exciting, but I love a gift that solves a problem. It's probably why I love SHARK TANK. I think those problem-solving products are the most successful. I just can't seem to be creative enough to come up with an idea on my own. This is a swirly-whirly tornado makeup brush cleaner. Think of your teenagers, sister, mom or MIL, I think it's a winner.
I know I have told y'all about this before but I really think EVERY home needs a record player. I even have one at our lake house. I love the crackling sound of the needle and sliding the record in and out of the case. You can find lots of records at estate or garage sales. Etsy & ebay always have a bunch too. First, start with a Christmas collection. Everyone needs a Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Elvis, Perry Como & Mariah Carey albumn. Come on, you know it's not Christmas without hearing All I Want for Christmas Is You. And you have to hear it a minimum of 25 times before the New Year hits.
This cooler is so perfect for the men in your life. College & NFL teams are available so you can make everyone happy. It's the perfect size for a tailgate or when your friends invite you over and say BYOB. You don't want to walk in with your YETI and look like you plan to stay all night or pass out by 10pm. You could even fill it with their favorite drink & at this price you could get it for co-workers, the mailman, or even the baseball coach that is so patient with your son all season.
I know what you're thinking, no more pets in this house. Believe me, we have had them all. Probably the highlight was our hamster Mimi who had a little accident while we were away on spring break. She got her little leg stuck in the exercise wheel and was stuck there the whole time we were gone. My daughter was devastated & of course my husband was a total sucker. He got some advice from Petland and took her to an "exotic animal" vet. Are hamsters exotic? So long story short, after the amputation, anesthesia, pain meds and an antibiotic it cost a pretty penny. The vet even had scrubs on when she came out of "surgery". I know you think I am making this up. This is part of the reason my family & friends have told me to write a blog, stories like this. Oh and there are plenty more to come.
Ok back to this gift idea, I digress, this is a winner for so many. Young kids would love this in their bedroom. How about in a college dorm room, even if they says pets aren't allowed I think it counts as a home accessory. Maybe in your laundry room or husband's office to lighten your "load". I can just imagine any person opening it would say, "this is so cool". Don't ya think?
Ok friends, back to my day job. The laundry, dishwasher, and running to Target are all in my future today. If I see anything fun at Target I'll let ya know. So get your list started. Go ahead and make it with the 4 columns, learn my my mistakes. Maybe I should come up with a fancy template to share with y'all to print. I'm taking this blog to a whole new level now. Ok- off I go...
Be kind & love others,
